Young Canadians in Finance, in partnership with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, are excited to invite you to our inaugural Economic Series fireside chat. We have the pleasure of welcoming Doug Porter, Chief Economist at BMO Financial Group. Doug, one of Canada’s most respected economic voices, will share his insights on a range of topics including the Canadian and global economic outlook, interest rate trends, and market dynamics.

We look forward to an engaging and informative session, in which Doug will offer valuable perspectives for anyone interested in macroeconomics, finance, and investment strategy. Light food and refreshments will be provided at the event.

Doug Porter Biography

Doug Porter has over 30 years of experience analyzing global economies and financial markets. As Chief Economist at BMO Financial Group, he oversees macroeconomic and financial market forecasts and co-authors the firm’s weekly flagship publication, Focus. Under his leadership, BMO’s economics team has earned top rankings in forecasting accuracy, including:  

• #1 U.S. Forecaster (Focus Economics Survey, 2023)
• #1 Canadian Inflation Forecaster (Focus Economics Survey, 2023)
• #1 Most Accurate Forecasters for Canada (StarMine Awards, 2022)

Doug began his career at the Bank of Canada and has held roles as Economist and Country Risk Analyst at other Canadian financial institutions. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and is a CFA charterholder. He also serves on the C.D. Howe Institute’s Monetary Policy Council and investment committees for BMO’s pension and endowment funds.
